XLVIII 3407, P.Oxy. 48 3407: Letter to Papnouthis and Hatres\u00a0This narrow papyrus sheet (8.5 x 25 cm) contains a letter to Papnouthis, who is called \u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03bd\u03bf\u03b7\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2 (\u201csupervisor, caretaker\u201d, line 2), and Hatres, who is called \u03c6\u03c1(\u03bf\u03bd\u03c4\u03b9\u03c3\u03c4\u03ae\u03c2) (line 2). They are instructed to send \u03c4\u1f78\u03bd \u03c4\u03b1\u03c5\u03c1\u03b5\u03bb\u03ac\u03c4\u03b7\u03bd (\"ox-driver\", line 3-4) to the \u1f10\u03c0\u03bf\u03af\u03ba\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd Akindynou that same day, to haul rocks for the \u1f00\u03b4\u03b5\u03bb\u03c6\u03bf\u03af Nepotianos and Diogenes. For the next day, \u1f10\u03bd \u03c4\u1fc7 \u03ba\u03c5\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1\u03ba\u03b7\u03bd \u1f21\u03bc\u03ad\u03c1\u1fb3 (\u201cSunday\u201d, line 15-16), the 11th, the rocks will be taken away. This is an early attestation of \u03ba\u03c5\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1\u03ba\u03ae for Sunday, other early texts feature \u1f20\u03bc\u03ad\u03c1\u03b1 \u1f21\u03bb\u03b9\u03bf\u03c5. The use of \u1f00\u03b4\u03b5\u03bb\u03c6\u03bf\u03af (line 18) to address the two recipients could indicate a Christian background. The sender, who identifies herself as \u03c0(\u03b1\u03c1\u1f70) \u03c4\u1fc6\u03c2 \u03b3\u03b5\u03bf\u03cd\u03c7\u03bf\u03c5 (line 1), may be the landlady Clematia from P.Oxy. XLVIII 3406, a letter which is also addressed to Papnouthis.",
