| Description | P.Würzb. 16; P.Wuerz. 16: Deed of surety. Sheet of papyrus of which the lower-left part is missing. It contains a declaration with sworn oath addressed to Aurelius Chairemon praepositus pagi, by the deacon Aurelius Akammon, son of Heras, from Arsinoiton polis but residing in the village of Kerkesiphis, concerning the priest Aurelius Ellas, son of Aion, from the village of Tristomon. Because the deacon Akammon is illiterate, his subscription was written by Aurelius Agathos, monk (apotaktikos), son of Syrios ancient president of the town council. The body of the document is written in an upright cursive hand, while the subscription is written in a larger semi-cursive hand. The script runs along the fibres. Verso: title of the document (ἐγγύη) in the top-right corner, against the fibres. |
