Description

P.Oxy. VIII 1162: Letter of Peace for Ammonios

Well preserved letter sent by the priest Leon to his fellow "beloved brothers in the Lod God", priests and deacons in every locality, recommending a brother-Christian Ammonios.

Recto: the letter is written in a semi-cursive hand running along the fibres. Particular layout: some fomulas are written in larger letters (l. 5: "fullness of joy"; l.9: "in peace"; l. 13: valedictio); use of nomina sacra (also contracted "Emmanuel") and final isopsephy ϙθ (= 99 = amen) with supralinear stroke. See P.Oxy. LVI 3857 for similar features.

Verso: blank.
