Description

P. Gascou 84: Magical amulet
This sheet (7.2 × 7 cm) is intended to be used as an amulet against fever with shivering and any kind of ailment or affliction. The writer does so by invoking the 7 angels Uriel, Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Ragouel, Phanouel and Radouriel (these last two appear only here in the papyri) as ἀνγελοι τοῦ Θεοῦ, as well as by invoking ἅγιε βασιλεῦ τῶν αἰώνων ἀπ’ αἰώνων («holy king of the eons after eons», line 15–16) through τοῦ ἁγίου ὀνόματος («your holy name», line 21).
