Description

P.Oxy. LXVII 4628, P.Oxy. 67 4628: Letter from Gerontios to Κollouthos
Following the greeting, in which Gerontios addresses Κollouthos as κυρίῳ μου υἱῷ, τhe letter (10.8 x 29 cm) begins by exclaiming οἶδεν ὁ θεός (l. 3), outlining issues with the lodging of some soldiers, part of a unit called Μαῦροι (line 9). Describing how he has never had any issues with previous billeting soldiers (μιτάτωρ/μητάτωρ, lines 10 and 24), the current group has not shown respect and not visited Gerontios. Since Κollouthos is a domesticus, he asks him to intervene and send the soldiers to him, so he does not have to bother the (more senior?) praepositus.
