Description

P.Oxy. XLVIII 3421, P.Oxy. 48 3421: Letter from Ammonios to Serapion
The writing on the letter (11 x 12.5 cm) is strongly rubbed off in many parts. The recipient is addressed as τῷ κυρίω μου ἀδελφῷ (line 1), and the writer prays τῷ πανελεήμονι Θεῷ (line 4). Ammonios is writing to Serapion regarding the latter’s foster-child Philippos, asking him to assist the child and not allow a certain Petalos to rob or steal him away (στερήσιν, line 13). The letter would have continued, but it was trimmed and reused for the letter on the verso, P.Oxy. 48 3402. Ammonios could possibly be identified as the same individual from P.Oxy. 48 3419 and P.Oxy. 48 3420.
