Description

P.Bodm. III [P.Bodmer 3]

Papyrus codex containing the Gospel According to John and the beginning of Genesis (1:1–4:2) in Coptic (B4: early Bohairic). The remains of this codex consist of 72 identifiable papyrus folios and numerous fragments. The original codex would have contained a complete copy of the Gospel According to John and Genesis 1:1-4:2 in early Bohairic. Robinson states that P.Bodm. 3 was brought to Geneva in September of 1955 by Phocion Tano along with P.Bodm. 2 (Robinson 2011: 40-41, 164). [Source: Bodmer Lab].

Unclear provenance; reportedly found at Ǧabal Abū Mannāʿ near Dishna (Upper Egypt) in 1952 (part of the “Dishna Papers” alongside several other Bodmer Papyri), possibly the location of a Pachomian monastery, see Robinson 2011, Lundhaug 2018.
