Description

P.Oxy. LXVI 4500; Gregory-Aland 0308; Uncial 0308

A relatively small parchment fragment from a miniature codex containing the Book of Revelation verses 11:15-18. Another miniature codex with similar content and format, also probably containing 14 lines of text to the folio originally, is P.Oxy. VIII 1080 (4th c.).

The text appears to have been written by a highly skilled scribe as the script is a very distinct and neat small uncial, yet no lectional aids nor any forms of punctuation occur in the small sample of text. The number '24' is written in alphabetical numerals with a superlinear stroke in l. 6. In the ed. pr., the script is compared to that of P.Amh. II 24 and 0171

The folio contains one unique reading that is unattested in the Greek witnesses (καί before [τοῖς προφήταις] in l. 10-11), which is otherwise found in a Sahidic Coptic and an Old Latin MS; see Blumell / Wayment 2015: 161. The verses overlap with the text of P47 and P.Oxy. LXVI 4499, and the text generally agrees with Codex Sinaiticus except in 11:16 where the text reads κα]θημενο[ι instead of καθηνται of the Sinaiticus.
