Description | I.Oasis p. 28-29, no. 7; SB XX 14756; SEG XXVI 1786; SEG XXXIX 1701: Visitor's inscription. Five lines of text deeply engraved reading "Remember in this (holy) place, in the ... house of God, Herakleios" (with corrections by Bagnall 1989: 343). The adjective preceding "house" is problematic: Wagner read εὐσκίστη, taking it as an error for εὐσκί<α>στη, a hapax in Sophocles, Oed. Col. 1707; Bagnall 1989: 343 suggested an error for εὐσχίστῃ and Hagedorn 1996: 182 suggested to read θυσιαστηρ̣[ίῳ]. None of these solutions seemed fully satisfying to them. Another one suggested by R.A. Tybout (see SEG XXXIX 1701) could be εὐ{σ}κ⟨τ⟩ίστῃ. For a similar inscription in the same room, see I.Oasis p. 38-39 no. 50. |
