Description | I.Oasis p. 29, no. 11; SB XX 14760; SEG XXXVIII 1736: Visitor's inscription. Reading: "Fl. Makarios, soldier of the Mauri Scutarii, found peace in Monesis". Wagner suggests that the expression ἔλαβεν τὴν εἰρήνην means that Makarios found the peace of Christ and alludes to a conversion. Wagner notes that the Notitia Dignitatum XXXI, 23 testifies of the presence of one cuneus equitum Maurorum Scutatorium in Lycopolis. Assiut was at the starting point of a caravan track leading to Kharga. |
