Description

Nag Hammadi Codex IV

Papyrus codex containing a variety of Gnostic texts in Coptic (Sahidic dialect), said to have been discovered along with 12 other codices in an area near Nag Hammadi, although the precise context and circumstance of their discovery in 1945 remains unclear (e.g. Nongbri 2018, 108–15). The contents of Nag Hammadi Codex IV include:

pp. A–B: blank
pp. 1–49 (NHC IV, 1): Apokryphon Iohannis (Apocryphon of John; CC 0648), with final title on p. 49. The central bifolium of the quire is left blank (and numbered C–F).
pp. 50–81 (NHC IV, 2): Evangelium Aegyptiorum (Gospel of the Egyptians; CC 0662);
p. G (= p. 82): blank. The final title should have been written here if it existed (maybe not according to Emmel 195, p. 8–9);
p. H–K: blank.
