A fragment of a similar lamp has been found in Kūm al-Dikka (Alexandria) in a context dated around 300 AC (cf. Młynarczyk, 1995, 141).

Archaeological context

The lamp was discovered in the area of the Great Sarapeum in Alexandria, to the west of the temple of Sarapis. It was found during the 1920 excavation season conducted by Evaristo Breccia on behalf of the Musée Gréco-Romain dʼAlexandrie. The 18 lamps unearthed in the Sarapeum during the 1920 season came from a fill of a circular rock-cut pit.
