| Description | P.Herm. 37: Receipt for money Almost complete document with receipt issued by Papnouthis, son of Hierax, from Hermoupolis, and addressed to Aurelius Asklepiades, a soldier in the military unit of the most noble Mauroi, stationed at Hermopolis. It is apparently for a payment of two solidi out of a total of six owing, though the interpretation of the body of the document remains unclear. Three hands according to ed.: the one of the body of the document is large, slightly sloping, with affinities to the chancery script; the subscription is in a smaller, less practised, semi-uncial hand; the notarial signature is written in a distinctly flowing cursive and starts with a cross and staurogram. Verso is blank. |
