Description | P.Leid.Inst. 62; P.L.Bat. 62: Declaration. Well preserved and complete document containing a declaration by Herakleius, systates, addressed to his "lord and brother" Alexandros, monthly president and his associates of the guild of carpet workers regarding cancellation of the name of one Antinous, son of Herakleides, on account of the anabolikon tax of the 13th indiction. Signed by Herakleios on Choiak 14th. The whole text is written by the same large cursive hand, across the fibres. Christian cryptogram ΧΜΓ at the top of the text. Same person, handwriting and ΧΜΓ in P.Oxy. X 1328. Verso is blank. |

Dating criteria | According to ed. pr. the style of writing points to the second half of 4th c. As such, they suggested that the 13th indiction mentioned in the document could be December 10th, 369, 384 or 399 – the text being written the year after; a date in 415 would be too late for the office of the systates (see Van Minnen 1991: 275-283 and BL IX 155). Note that new late attestations of the office have been published since, such as P.Oxy. LXXII 4904 dated 417 [VS]. |
