Description | Benaissa 2007: 199-202, no. 1: Sale on Delivery (?) Top right-hand corner of a document conserving part of a contract (homologia) in cheirograph form between the son(?) of a bishop and several individuals from an Oxyrhynchite hamlet. Each individual must supply a quantity of hay corresponding to the sum received. The chief interest of this document is the name of the bishop of Oxyrhynchus that it partially provides and which conflicts with the assumed tenure of the bishopric by the 'orthodox' bishop Theodorus from 347 to 383/4. Thus, acccording to the ed. reconstitutions, the papyrus may provide either the latest dated attestation of Dionysius, or the first papyrological attestation of Apollonius. Recto: written along the fibres, with minimal right-hand margin. Verso is blank. |
