| Description | P.Lond. VI 1919: Letter to Apa Paieous. Pennes writes to Apa Paieous, head of the Melitian community in Hathor, sending greetings, compliments and pious thoughts, and announcing that "we shall be called Christians in Christ Χρηστιανοὶ [l. Χριστιανοὶ] κληθή[σο]μ̣εν̣ ἐν Χ(ριστ)ῷ)" (l. 16-17). Bell (P.Lond. VI 1919 intro) notes that it is not unlikely that this Pennes was the "Piness, presbyteros of the monastery (μονή) of Ptemenkyrkis in the Antaeopolite nome whose letter to John Archaph is quoted by Athanasius.
Hand: hand extremely fluent and in an official vein, large and practiced cursive. (see Bagnall 2018: 97). Recto: unusually in two columns (but mutilation of col. 1), along fibres. Verso: address along the fibres. |
