Description | P.Oxy. XV 1783 Fragment containing the Shepherd of Hermas, Mandate no. 9. The fragment was previously suggested to have come from the same codex as P.Oxy. XV 1828 (Luijendijk 2010: 254; Batovici 2016: 394; Blumell / Wayment 2015: 247) but this has since been opposed (see TM page). The codex is small / miniature (originally approx. 13 x 9.3 cm) and contains a palimpsest that runs converse to the main text. The palimpsest, although quite effaced, reads τὸν περιεσχίσθη οὐ μόνον τῷ, καὶ πληρῶ according to Hunt, and appears to be an unknown prose text which slightly predates the main text of the fragment. |
