Description | P.Oxy. VI 849; P.Lond.Lit. 221 A folio from a miniature codex, containing the apocryphal Acts of Peter 25-26. Original pagination has been preserved, which numbers the folio as pages 167 and 168; medium-sized upright uncial. The Greek text of The Acts of Peter is preserved in three witnesses; P.Oxy. VI 849, Codex Vatopedi 79 and Codex Patmos 48. The text is otherwise attested in a variety of different languages, i.a. Latin, Slavonic, Coptic, Ethiopian and Armenian. This particular section of the Acts of Peter is elsewhere attested only in the Latin Codex Vercellensis; see Blumell / Wayment 2015: 258. The text presents a scene in which Peter offers to restore a deceased servant (killed by the touch of Simon) to life through the power of his God. The scene is a trial of faith arranged by Agrippa. |
