Description

P.Kellis I 65: Letter from Philammon to Tekose

Philammon complains to Tekose because she has not sent any news to him and gives her instructions: collect the rent due on a plot of land out on lease, estimate the olive crop, sell a small amount of olive oil and a foal for him, in order to help him cover a substantial financial loss. References to God ("if God bids" / "And (even) if God does not").

The Philammon is possibly the same as the one in P.Kellis I 49 (304); P.Kellis  I 37 (320) or even the Coptic P.KellisCopt. II 81 in which a certain Philammon complains to Theognostos / Loui Shai of losses that he has sustained.

After writing, the papyrus was turned vertically from top to bottom and the letter was continued on the bottom back across the fibres. Address written along the fibres on the bottom left hand side of the back before the letter was rolled up.
