Description

Aegyptus 17 (1937): 456-459

Parchment fragment containing the Shepherd of Herma Similitudines V 1:5-2:2 and 2:4-2:6.

The fragment preserves the upper part of a codex folio (measuring 9 x 14 cm) and contains 10 lines of text written in one column (with a loss of approx. 19 lines of text). The recto contains verses 1:5-2:2; the verso contains verses  2:4-2:6. The ed. pr. estimates the original folio to have measured 25 x 20 cm. There is no visible pagination, and the script is badly faded.

The ed. pr. describes the hand as an elegant and careful Biblical uncial (described as "informal" in Wayment 2012: 84) with certain ligatures between letters, yet with neat separation of words and phrases. There are no corrections or lining of the sheet. For punctuation, the scribe employs high-dots, and a paragraphos appears in l. 9 of the verso. There is no accentuation, but there are diaereses and marked rough breathings in l. 5 of the recto.

The text contains several nomina sacra.
