| Archaeological context | All of the material published by Kahle in 1954 was excavated in early 1907 at a monastery of Saint Apollo under the direction of Flinders Petrie (Kahle 1954, 2-3). There were no records indicating precise find-spots of the manuscripts, Crum states that they were scattered “around the ruin” and that they were “clearly the débris of the monastic library and charter room” (Crum 1907, 39). |
