Description | Wayment 2012: 67-71 Parchment fragments with Christian text reused for binding for Tura codex V (5th/6th c., Tura; containing Didymos the Blind's Commentary on Psalms). The three fragments measure 1.5 x 21.7 cm, and contain the Old Testament text of Ben Sira Ecclesiasticus 38:28.4-39:4.4. Both the recto and the verso preserve parts of 23 lines of text (recto preserves verses 38.28.4-38.32.4; the verso 38.33.2-39:4.4). The text is written in the typical biblical majuscule, which the ed. pr. compares to the hand in Codex Sinaiticus, and it is arranged on a parchment sheet that was carefully lined to accommodate the text. The original size of the codex is estimated to have been 25 x 14-15 cm, and the ed. pr. suggests that the text was probably arranged in stanzas. |

Dating criteria | Palaeography. The ed. pr. compares the hand (biblical majuscule) with Codex Sinaiticus, and places the fragments in the 4th c. It necessarily predates codex V of the Tura papyri (420-527 AD), as it is part of the binding of the codex. |
