Description

IGChrEg 65: Funerary epitaph for Paulos and Aniana
The inscription (40 x 35 cm) is dedicated to Paulos, deceased on Hathor 1st, and his wife Aniana, deceased on Phamenoth 1st (or later, there might be a second illegible digit after Φαμενωθ ι on line 13), who leave behind their offspring Artemis and Sophia. Beginning with Α ☩ Ⲱ and stating the exact date of death indicate a Christian context. Poor quality limestone was used, and the engraved letters have been painted red. Below the 13 lines of dedication, 2 lines of graffito follow, for which the ed.pr. has no explanation.
