Description

Gregory-Aland 𝔓66, P.Bodmer 2, P. Köln Gr. 5 214, van Haelst 406: Gospel of John
The codex is made up of 75 very well-preserved folios (originally a 78-folio codex), of which the first part is still a complete book block (John 1:1-14:26), single folios (parts of John 14:29-21:9), as well as many unplaced fragments. Originally sized 14,2 x 16,2 cm, with 15–25 lines per page.
Identified fragments outside Geneva include one in Cologne (John 19, 8-11; 13-15; 18-20; 23-24) and one at the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin (John 19:25-28; 19.30-32). Similarities are noted to P.Bodmer 14 (i.a. John 1:1–13:10).

Archaeological context

Unclear provenance; reportedly found at Ǧabal Abū Mannāʿ near Dishna (Upper Egypt) in 1952 (part of the “Dishna Papers” alongside several other Bodmer Papyri), possibly the location of a Pachomian monastery, see Robinson 2011, Lundhaug 2018.
