Description

P.Oxy. XXXIV 2665, P.Oxy. 34 2665: Report of property registrars on Paul
This document (19 x 26 cm) is quite damaged at the top left and at the bottom, the left and right margin are present. The contents concern an individual designated as «Paul from the Oxyrhynchite nome» (line 14), who has been condemned by Satrius Arrianus, governor of the Thebaid, and whose property the bibliophylakes in the Oxyrhynchite have now verified in the records. In this report to the city councillors, they conclude that he owns nothing. His peculiar naming without profession and only with location indicates Paul may have been a well-known person in the nome. Due to the dating and content of the report, he is presumed to have been a possible victim of Diocletian’s Great Persecution, seeing as line 11 mentions the registrars proceeding κατὰ θεῖον πρόσταγμα (according to a divine edict) of the Emperors. Procurator rei privatae Aurelius Athanasius is mentioned only here and in P.Oxy. XXX 2673.
