Description

P.Oxy. LI 3646, P.Oxy. 51 3646: Letter from Harsonthous to Flavianos
This nearly intact letter (10.5 x 25 cm), written from the elder Harsonthous to the younger Flavianos, whom he addresses as κυρίῳ μου πάτρωνι καὶ υἱῷ, informs the latter of affairs at home. He reports that an unreliable man in charge has not paid attention to Flavianos’ animals and affairs, and favorably mentions the στρατηγός Herakl[e]ides who has offered his assistance. He mentions the wedding of his own son, for which Flavianos should write to an Ailouras for ten jars of wine from Sais. Harsonthous uses the term προφήτης (line 22), according to the ed.pr. possibly referring to his son. The verso contains the address.

Palaeography; the ed.pr. considers the στρατηγός Herakl[e]ides (line 8) could be the Oxyrhynchite strategos of 288/289 CE, but remarks that the handwriting looks younger.
