Description

P.Oxy. LVI 3858, P.Oxy. 56 3858: Letter from Barys to Diogenes
The recipient of this letter (10.5 x 25.5 cm), Diogenes, is greeted with ἐν κ(υρί)ω χαίριν (line 3) and at the end is wished well with the hope that δυνατὸς ὁ θ(εὸ)ς (line 24-25) protect him. Barys states that he is writing this letter instead of coming to visit Diogenes and disturbing him. He requests that a certain Horus, about whom Diogenes and a Pathermouthis had previously spoken, be allowed to delay his liturgy by 4 months. Horus is described as being of limited means and responsible for a plot of land for a Serenianus, which he is planning to leave to fulfill the liturgy in the month of Hathyr. Nomina sacra: κω, θς.
