Description

P.Oxy. XLI 2969, P.Oxy. 41 2969: Agreement for the caretaking of a persea tree
This papyrus is the top left corner (11 x 11 cm + 4.5 x 6 cm) of an agreement between residents Timotheos (a bronze-worker), Euporion (a linen dealer) and Morus (an ἀναγνωστος, a reader or Christian lector) to care for a recently-planted persea tree near their houses. The addressee is Dioskorides, λογιστής of the Oxyrhynchite nome. The verso is blank. P.Oxy. 41 2993 is presumably a copy of this contract. This agreement also shows similarities to P.Oxy. 36 2767, an oath concerning care for trees.
