Description | P.Kellis I 32: Lease of a room Contract according to which Aurelia Marsis from the village of Kellis residing in the middle-Egyptian village of Aphrodite (Antaiopolite nome) has leased from Aurelius Psais son of Pamouris (also from Kellis and also residing in Aphrodite) for the current year one room in his house. The rent for the whole year is two artabs of wheat. As Aurelia Marsis is illiterate, Aurelios Iakôb son of Besis, "priest and reader of the catholic church" (πρ(εσβυτέρου) ἀναγνώστης καθολικῆς ἐκε̣λησίας) has written for her. This papyrus yields another instance with P.Kellis I 30 (363) of Christian persons born in Kellis and residing in Aphrodite at the moment the contract was written. Apparently, Psais took the contract back to Kellis at some later moment. Writing (very clumsy hand) parallel to the fibres; verso is blank. |
