O.Douch IV 381: Payment order

Issued by Hatres, instructing his brothers in Pinor, An-- and Mou(ses?) son of --, to provide Elias with 3,5 annona measures (lithoi) of cotton; signed by the optio Flavius Plenis (a dromedarius from Hermonthis according to O.Douch V 551 and 618).

Another Elias is found in O.Douch II 153A, 5, probably a military man according to the editor; see also O.Douch IV 435.

Palaeography, content and archaeological context.

O.Douch IV 358-390 are dated in the late 4th c. or early 5th c. in ed. pr. (Wagner 1999: viii); see also Carrié 2004: 263 who suggests that the core of the Dūš ostraca were written between 385 and 420.
