Description

O.Douch IV 384: List of guards.

List in 3 columns bearing the names of the "guardians of the gates of the great gate". First, the soldiers (stratiotai) and then civilians (paganoi). Among soldiers, some names are suggestive of Christianity, like the theophoric Papnouthes or biblical Esaï, whereas among the paganoi, there is one Samouel. Same names in O.Douch IV 385.

Samouel is probably the same person as the Samouel son of Tnene in O.Douch III 349.

About Kysis as a customs station, see Carrié 2014.
