Description | I.Louvre 109; SEG XLII 1558: Funerary stela for a monk. Fragmentary (broken at all sides) decorated, sandstone stela (h. 24.2 ; w. 14 ; th. 5 cm), with a 4 lines incised inscription. On the first line is the Christian cryptogram ΧΜΓ, the three others bear the name of "Sansnos, monk" (written monochos, for monachos, which is quite common, see O.Kellis 121 or P.Lond. VI 1913). Under the text is an inscribed sequence showing a staurogram between two palm leaves. |
