| Description | PSI I 5; Gregory-Aland 0173 A parchment folio from a miniature codex containing the Epistle of James 1.25-27. The fragment is a nearly complete folio from a miniature codex measuring 5.9 x 7.2 cm (original size is estimated to have been 6.5 x 7.2 cm). The page contains one column with 9 lines of text, and all four margins are preserved. Page numbers have been preserved above the columns, numbering the pages as "17" and "18" respectively. The ed. pr. estimates an original format of 24 folded sheets that would contained the complete Epistle of James. The text is written in careful, upright and oval uncials with variation in the thickness of strokes. The impression is of a professional copy. The text does not contain nomina sacra, nor any punctuation or lectional aides. The fragment is one of 3 Oxyrhyncan codices beginning with the Epistle of James; see Blymell / Wayment 2015: 180, who lists P.Oxy. X 1229 (late 3rd c.) and P.Oxy. LXV 4449 (3rd c.). |
