Description | I.Oasis p. 64 no. 3; SB XX 14850; SEG XXXVIII 1699: Visitor's inscription. Three lines left by Kyros, son of Athanasios, "most humble sinner", praying for god's help for him and for Esdra for the "last journey". The inscription is dated March 14, indiction 6. Kyros left another inscription later, when his father was dead, where we learn that he comes from Hibis, see I.Oasis p. 66 no. 7. Nine other inscription of his at al-Baǧawāt are yet to be published (Roquet, Ghica nos. 3.016, 3.043, 3.098, 6.3, 6.1, 6.6, 12.04, 12.06, 31.064). Wagner suggests that Esdra could be the same as the priest who left graffiti in the nearby Ǧabal al-Ṭayr, see I.Gebel Teir, p. 15 no. I, 6 and I.Gebel Teir, p. 19 no. I, 16. |
