Description

Mummy label for Papnute, deceased on Parmouthi 7th (April 2). The text provides either familial connection ("son of Apa Je(re)mias") or monastic origin ("of the (topos) of Apa Je(re)mias"); we lean towards the latter interpretation.

Delattre and Worp (2012: 94) raised the possibility that, due to size (14.5 x 18.5 cm) and thickness, as well as the careful incision of the text, the object was not a label but a memorial or tomb stela of admittedly rather small size. The dating taken into account here derives from considering this board as a mummy label. The shape of the object, the holes as well as the direction of the text support this interpretation.

The object is said to have been purchased (maybe found also) in Thebes.
