Description

P.Oxy. XXIV 2384, Prometheus 1 (1975): 195-200; Gregory-Aland P70; 𝔓70; NT70

Papyrus fragment from a codex containing the Gospel of Matthew (fragments of chapters 2, 3 and 24). To the codex belongs also the previously published P.Oxy. XXIV 2384. 3 fragments are currently related to this codex. The text is written in a single column with an original estimate of approximately 28–29 lines per column.

Fragment A of PSI inv. 3407 measures 2 x 5.4 cm, and the verso precedes the recto. Fragment B cm measures 4.5 x 3 cm, where the recto precedes the verso. P.Oxy. XXIV 2384 measures 3.5 x 3.7 cm with 5 lines of text on the verso, and 6 on the recto; the verso precedes the recto.

The two Florentine fragments (PSI inv. CNR 419 + 420) present Mt 2:13-16, 2:22-3:1, 24:3-6 and 24:12-15, the P.Oxy. XXIV 2384 adds verses 11:26-27 and 12:4-5.

The hand is described as an upright, reformed documentary hand (see Blumell / Wayment 2015: 92-93). The text contains several nomina sacra and unique variants (inter alia the spelling of Ναζαρέτ as Ναζαρά in Mt 2:23 and the singular τῷ σάββατῳ in Mt 12:5).
