Description

SB XXII 15359; P.Oxy.Descr. 11; P.Oxy. I 182 descr.: Letter of Thonius to Thecla

Letter from Thonius to "Thecla my spouse and sister in the Lord God", greetings and prayers to the "Divine Providence". The object of the letter concerns Papnouthis and a matter of 20 talents. The end of the letter is unintelligible because of some loss in the lower margin.

According to the ed., there is a possible connection with the business archive of Papnuthis and Dorotheus, published by J. Shelton as P. Oxy. XLVIII3384-3429.

Recto: The handwriting is a good example of a mid-4th c. Kanzleischrift derivative; running along the fibres.

Verso: Address, along the fibres (see Gonis 2001: 117 for correction).
